Swim for Life

We have been participating in the SEALORD Swim for Life programme. We have had 10 lessons with our awesome instructors at the Lido pools over the past few weeks. This is a great programme that helps us to improve for fitness and swimming skills as well as learn how to make wise choices in the water.

Newspaper In Education

This year we are using the Newspaper in Education programme. We recieve an iSite magazine  on a theme and a newspaper, The Evening Standard, about every 6 weeks throughout the year. The first one was all about Sea Week. We had a choice of tasks to complete and then we had to present to the class. Some people did a Scavenger Hunt, others made a montage of photos with Thought and Speech bubbles added and Emily gave a speech about an article she choose.

Good Grief it's Gecko's

We had some special visitors in TEAM 2 this morning. Ric, who works for DOC breeding and raising native Geckos and Skinks brought some in for us to look at. Thanks Ric,  it was so interesting. You should have seen Mrs Speirs jump when one of the Geckos sprung out of Ric's hand. We are going to do some more learning around Geckos on Monday.

 

Football with Shane Rufer

We were pleased to welcome back Shane Rufer today, he's back to help us improve our football skills. We were all trying to be the best we can be... watch out David Beckham.

 

Radical Reading

After we have finished our Spelling and Handwriting we can use the blog. We were using spelling games, like Hangmouse and Wordsearch,  from the Vocablulary tab.

We learnt how to use a TIC TAC TOE Notetaking graphic organiser to help with our reading. Being able to take good notes shows we understand what we are reading. It can also help us in the future at High School and University!

Oh! the places we will go...

We have started our next art project. Using the Dr Seuss book "Oh the places you'll go" for inspiration we are going to make paper mache balloons, like the hot air balloons in the illustrations. We will write our goals, hopes and dreams for this year and put them in a basket under the balloon. The at the end of the year we will look back and see if we have reached the goals we set at the beginning of the year.

Here we are starting the process... sticky and a bit messy!

Gingerbread People

We're getting ready to write... so to get us motivated we made "Gingerbread People". We decorated them with pink (berry flavour) or yellow (lemon flavour) icing. We used Skittles for the eyes and buttons. Tomorrow we will write a retell of the Gingerbread Man story or a recount about our Gingerbread baking experience.

They were pretty yum too!
